If you have pitting , fill the pits with a polyesther putty after you have epoxy primed the area. Yeah, i've considered sand blasting it. Don't know if that's neccessary though. The photo I posted is prior to a more aggressive surface prep. The area i'm mostly concerned about is the junction of the firewall and the inner fender.
Doesn't appear to be anything more than surface rust there. No rust thru on the inside of the firewall either. I think i'd prefer to clean up the area as best as possible and hit it with some rust converter. Thanks ya'll Got myself some wire wheels and cup brushes. Got a bit of practicing to do with the welder before I swiss cheese the inner fender!! I would do that and use Rust zero over it just to be sure. You have to dilute to thin it out.
They recommend an "epoxy fortified" rust encapsulator , over the converter If that is the case, I would not think that there would be a problem using an epoxy primer But , you could use the rust encapsulator, then 2K Last edit at AM by Mr. Re: Rust Converters and Bondo 5. Body repair is often considered one of the most delicate and complicated car repairs, but learning how to Bondo rust holes is luckily quite simple. The putty can be useful for filling rust holes in the most rust-prone areas of a car including quarter panels, fenders over and behind the wheels, and the bottoms of doors.
However, whether or not you can Bondo a rust hole will depend on the location and severity of the rust. Minor surface rust can often be sanded and painted, but major rust pitting and holes may require a little more effort and material — specifically, Bondo or some other quality body filler. Fuel tanks and exhaust systems are also a no-go because body fillers will not cure when exposed to fuel and will crack when exposed to heat. For structural components with rust holes, welding or replacement are the only options.
To get started, the body filler needs something to stick to. Filler has long been a standby for repairing small car dents.
For one, Bondo that is mixed too thickly can crack, harming rather than improving the look of the car. Additionally, there's a risk of discoloration and poor long-term wear when you use a filler like Bondo. See More Reviews. Permatex Liquid Metal Filler. Evercoat Light Weight Body Filler.

Bondo should NEVER be on top of anything but grit prepped bare metal, if you want it to stick and last. You can, however, use glazing putty on top of primer sanded with grit.
Hope this helps! However, with so many different types of aftermarket paint available lacquer, enamel, urethane, water-based. We recommend that all paint be removed where filler is to be applied. If it is your pride and joy, I'd do a little more work to reduce the dent.
